The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is continuing its calls for site managers to show leniency towards staff with expired SKILLcards. Operatives have been unable to sit their tests due to the closure of testing centres on 20th March 2020.

Last year we introduced our online application process which has proven to be more fast and efficient with us being able to deliver new cards in under seven working days. We have now decided to withdraw all paper applications from the SKILLcard website to enable the application process to be more effective but also friendlier for the environment.
No longer accepting payment by cheques
We will no longer accept payment by cheque from 30 April 2020.Payment will continue to be accepted by debit or credit card only.

Today SKILLcard announced that the CRO card for Engineering Installation & Maintenance Engineer are closing with a phased timetable starting on 31st January 2020. This is the 4th wave of CRO closures as part of its plan to deliver the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) 2025 vision. All card schemes carrying the CSCS logo including SKILLcard, must only certify those occupations with nationally recognised construction related qualifications, i.e. NVQs/SVQs or approved equivalents.

SKILLcard has started the next phase of the planned closure of CRO application routes. Following the withdrawal of new applications for the Fire Sprinkler Installer card. The closure will now apply to renewal applications from 1st February 2020. A new qualification route is now open in order to obtain a blue SKILLcard for that occupation.

Holders of Engineering Services SKILLcards are now able to renew their cards online following another upgrade of the online SKILLcard application system operated by the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA).
The application process for new SKILLcards moved online earlier this year and the website (www.skillcard.org.uk) has now been further enhanced to accommodate renewals.
